Adding a bathroom to a bedroom - Kensington

Framing a new bathroom inside a bedroom

Finished bathroom on left and laundry room on right

View of new shower through pocket door into finished bathroom addition

New floating vanity and tiling on floor and walls

Almost finished just tackling the final details for the bathroom addition

New shower w/ frameless glass enclosure and we added a window for some natural light and ventilation.

Before...

Existing concrete slab floor meant a subfloor would need to be added to run new drain pipes

its always a suprise when opening up a wall in an older home and seeing into its history. This wall had some surprising discoveries. The big header at the top means this wall was once a huge opening. Closer inspection revealed a carriage style garage door still in place to the left. That was changed to a regular door in the middle of the wall and to the right was the rest of the second garage door. All made of nice redwood (1x10). We salvaged the redwood and reframed the wall.

I reclaimed this carriage door for the old growth redwood. It was resurfaced and repurposed in all its beauty at Anthony's Cookies in Berkeley

Framing for partition wall and plumbing roughed in and subfloor added.

New bathroom (and laundry room) addition complete!

Breathable Redwood Planter w/ vented panels to extract excess moisture

Redwood Planter with venting slits
2x6 top   3x3 posts    2x3 top rail    2x4 bottom rail    4x4 feet     1x2.5 paneling
SIKKENS matte clear coat is still drying...

you can almost see the drip rail detail added around the bottom edge of the 2x6

I was going for a floating top look. I routed the same channel along the bottom edge to act as a drip rail

I liked the corner detail left from recessing the 4x4 to fit the panels.
Added some  depth to an otherwise square post. Note the sweeping terminations.

The tv is just there as an earthquake warning device.

I used my shaper to cut the vent slots then biscuit joined the panels.
